Artist's Comments

I have wanted to post these images for a long time now. This series was one of the two taken for a commission for ~ maiden117. The other set was chosen for the commission, but I still adore how these images turned out. This was one of my first serious and successful shoots with a model. I finally got the model release, so I can post them now. I hope you guys enjoy what you see. Other shots of Stephanie taken on the same day: Grace and Stripes. The series is under fetish for the sexuality, nudity, and striped socks that it contains.

Priest: (to Toki) Pray now the prayer of revenge. From whom do you seek revenge?
Toki: I seek revenge on Rachael Ray and the Food Network. Can't you make her... eyes fall out or something? ...Tits fall off?
Priest: Satan, grant this man to get the rev

A few things.
1: The background, looks like the cloth was wadded up in the corner, you need to make it disappear, the texture and shadows in the cloth are making it part of the image, and a distraction from the girl. Keep it further away from the model next time, and put a light on it. The light on the background will also help to kill the distracting shadow.

2: exposure in general. Take a look at her skin in particular. Their is no tonal range. You have light grey, and pure white. The overexposure flattens those sections out, not to mention is distracting. Light is a friend of a photographer, but in this case, you could have used a higher exposure, or less contrast-y light.

3: The cropping. You've cropped the body at uncomftorable places. Joints/etc are all bad places. It's hard to crop the body decently, when starting out, it may help to not crop it at all until you're more aware of how things work.

4: Keep it up. Asking for an advanced critique is a good step forward. Keep practicing, learning, reading, and asking when you're not sure.

This is some seriously heavy-duty critique. It caught me off guard, because I put down "advanced critique" every time and almost never get a word of critique in return. Thank you for this. It will help me improve as a photographer, which is what I really care about. I appreciate you taking the time.

*Grins* I just sat through five and a half hours of getting my work critiqued, and critiquing others in class today. Evidently I'm still in the mood. Thank you for the reply. Usually when I do leave one, the replies I get are poison.

I like how the candy striped thingys show up in the picture, i think it gives the photo an effect. I think the lighting is appropriate and the collors... everything ties together. It reminds me of those old black and white silent films. I love it.

amazing angle here give such a fastinating composition. the stripes echoing the black in the bra pulls it all together. the pose is great - very emotive. her hair looks so soft i want to just reach out and touch it. great job one of your best.
